HOW THE INTERIOR DESIGN PROCESS WORKS - Residential Home
My goal is to help you avoid common pitfalls and costly mistakes. I will assist you throughout the interior design process so that you feel comfortable with your decisions. I will work closely with you to make sure your home is not only beautiful, but practical and functional and assured that your finished project will reflect your personal style, budget and needs.
By Following These 5 Steps, We Absolutely Guarantee Great Results
Step 1: The Programming
The Programming Phase is like a first date, but without the butterflies. This is where I get to know you and your desires. Great interior design is not done in a vacuum. It is done in a context, like:
How many people live at home? Do you have children? Do you have pets? When you entertain is it usually family and friends or professional peers? Are you readers? Where do you like to sit when you read? Several rooms, an entire house? Is it your home, cottage, or chalet? Are you starting from Scratch or Re-decorating? What is the size of the room (Length * Width) ? Are there pieces that you'd like to keep, or have refinished? What is your favorite color, style and theme And anything relates your personal life
The answers to these questions will of course provoke more questions. Gradually the designer begins to get a picture of how you live.
Step 2: Furniture and Space plan
I will look at circulation, ergonomics, and furniture placement. Furniture placement will ensure that a functional lighting plan can be created at a later phase.

Step 3: Consultation and concept presentation
I develop new space plans, furniture plans, and color palettes, as well as select your new interior finishes such as paint, wall-covering, flooring, and window treatments, moldings, cabinetry and counter-tops, lighting & ceiling and flooring. This is also the phase when any custom-designed pieces or treatments would be sketched for your review. The new design will be presented to you as called " Schematic Design" pdf like this:
I'll send the new design to you for you to review the plans and finish selections and make any refinements needed.
In order to help you and other parties to visualize the result, I create a realistic 3d render of the final result, which will show your new house almost in reality so if there is any changes or comments from your side, I will again change and make sure it will be exactly as you are dreaming of
Step 4: Sourcing
I source and choose all of the furniture, accessory selection and design. The furniture and accessory selection is typically a combination of ready made items and custom pieces.
Step 5: Construction Documents
During the construction documentation phase I detail out all of your drawings so your contractors knows exactly what our design intent is and has accurate drawings to price out your job. I also draft and submit purchase orders for all of your equipment interior finishes and furnishings so items are received and ready to install before construction begins
This will be complete working drawing package, completed using the industry standard program, AutoCAD. My drawings are created for permitting and construction purposes. They are fully dimensions and include all necessary notes to ensure that no impromptu decisions need to be made on site. My notes include, but are not limited to, lighting suspension and mounting heights, tile layout and grout joint thicknesses and color, and any other pertinent information.
